The History
The dynamic industrial development in Chrzanowska Ziemia (the Chrzanowski Voivodship) at the beginning of the 20th century resulted in an increasing demand for electric power. In 1913 thanks to Polish and French capital the Siersza hydroelectric power plant (5Mw) was built. The maximal power reached in 1928 was 22.5 MW. These were the beginnings of the power plant whose tradition is continued by the Siersza power plant.
The rich coal layers of the nearby Siersza Coal Mine and very good conditions for extracting the coal gave the opportunity to build a new modern thermal power station in Poland in the 50s. In 1962 after the first stage of building the plant two power units started to function of the target installed power of 130 MW each. The main supplier of the equipment was French companies. The second stage of the construction resulted in four power units of the power of 120 MW each. The investment, the so called Polish stage, was finished in 1970. Boilers (for the plant's use) were produced in RAFAKO, Racibórz, turbines in ZAMECH, Elbląg and generators in DOLMEL, Wrocław.
After much required modernisation and revitalisation processes of power units 1 and 2 the Siersza power plant gained the power of 813 MW, yet the installed thermal power of 61.3 MWt. The power plant gives the electric power to the domestic electric network of the voltage of 110 and 120 kV and the thermal power to supply nearby housing estates and its own facilities (for its own purposes).
As a result of the reconstruction of the 29th December 2000 the Siersza power plant was merged with Południowy Koncern Energetyczny S.A. (the Southern Electric Conglomerate - joint stock company), becoming its branch.
