The Waste Management

Since 1996 as the new lines/networks to receive fly ash pneumatically (instead of hydraulically) and a slag clarifier operating in a closed water cycle have been started, waste discharge on the dump site has been stopped completely. The waste management has been changed totally at all levels. One of the plots where the ashes were placed in the past years was re-cultivated and the remaining plots were adjusted in case of the emergent need of storing waste in the form of suspension and so called stabilizat. The plots have a protective system in the form of bottom drainage and a network of piezometers to monitor the levels and quality of underground water.

Currently in the process of electric power production in plant 5 main by-products are created which are classified within the waste management policy. The products are selected and listed. These are: fly ash from the pulverised fuel boilers, fly ash from the fluid boilers, slag from the pulverised fuel boilers, bottom ash from the fluid boilers and the post reaction product from the semi-dry sulfur removal system (ppr).
The fly ash transferred from under the electofilters is transerred from the intermediary tanks to one of the four retention tanks of the total volume of 2500 m3 each. The post reaction product from the sulfur removal system is transferred to tank 1 or 4 where it can be mixed with any fly ash in any ratio or stored as a pure product. A programmable sequencer regulates the functioning of the pumps which put products into a tank and controls the ratio of the product mixture.

Bottom ash from the fluid boilers, transerred from an intermediary tank, is transferred to one of the two retention tanks of the volume of 1000 m3 each. The waste stored in this way is loaded to the car cisterns or rail cisterns.

Slag washed out from under the deslagging machine with the use of water is pumped by dredger pumps to a slag classifer consisting of two sedimentation chambers of the volume of 1600 m3 each. Water is returned again to the deslagging machine washing out the system with the use of mix flow pumps. After the chamber is filled up, slag is filtered on the bottom drainage, removed with the use of a gontry crane and loaded on the means of transport.

Currently the coal combustion products and post reaction products from the sulfur removal system (they are cyclically analysed with the use of physicochemical analyses to ensure their economic impact of usability) are transferred for industrial use, mostly for filling in the excavation headings.
